El 26 de abril en el Mandalay Bay de Las Vegas, la industria de la música celebró la vigésima edición de los Premios Billboard. Transmitido en vivo por Telemundo, este evento de gala elige a sus ganadores basados únicamente en su empeño en las listas de popularidad durante los últimos 12 meses en Estados Unidos y Puerto Rico. Los artistas de SESAC Latina demostraron que sus canciones generan tocadas radiales, ventas y streaming semana tras semana.
“Despacito”, el tema co-escrito por la afiliada de SESAC Latina Erika Ender e interpretada por Luis Fonsi y Daddy Yankee feat. Justin Bieber, fue el gran ganador de la noche, obteniendo seis premios – Hot Latin Song Canción del Año; Hot Latin Song Colaboración Vocal; Canción del Año, Airplay; Canción del Año, Digital; Canción del Año, Streaming; y Latin Pop Canción del Año. Ender también fungió como presentadora en una categoría.
El pionero de la música urbana Nicky Jam recibió dos reconocimientos por su álbum Fénix que ganó Top Latin Álbum del Año y Top Latin Rhythm Álbum del Año. Además, interpretó su nuevo sencillo “X”, feat. J. Balvin.
Los artistas de SESAC Latina sobresalieron en las categorías del género regional mexicano. El poderoso cuarteto Calibre 50, dirigido por el afiliado de SESAC Latina Edén Muñoz, presentó su sencillo “Mitad y Mitad” que recientemente alcanzó el puesto #1 en la lista Regional Mexican Airplay. El grupo también ganó Hot Latin Songs Artista del Año, Dúo o Grupo. Mientras tanto, Banda MS obtuvo dos galardones, Top Latin Albums Artista del Año, Dúo o Grupo; y Regional Mexican Artista del Año, Dúo o Grupo; debido en parte a la popularidad duradera de su canción “Tengo Que Colgar”, de la autoría de Muñoz.
Destacándose en el mismo género, el cantante y compositor mexicano Christian Nodal, de 19 años, ganó Regional Mexican Artista del Año, Solista; y Artista del Año, Debut; gracias a su gran éxito “Adiós Amor”. Actuó ante el público, cantando su tema “Me Dejé Llevar”.
En el género pop, el trío mexicano Reik presentó su nuevo éxito “Me Niego” feat. Ozuna y Wisin. Esta canción ha superado los 280 millones de vistas en YouTube a tan solo dos meses de su lanzamiento.
